Vocational Rehabilitation Services

Vocational Rehabilitation Services (VRS) provide a comprehensive intervention, combining vocational rehabilitation with employment assistance. VRS assists people who have an injury, disability or health condition to work independently in the open labour market. 

The focus of the intervention is to assist the job seeker to understand, compensate for or manage their injury, disability or health condition, or the resulting limitations or restrictions they may face. It helps them build work capacity and/or avoid re injury, find and retain employment. Vocational Rehabilitation providers work closely with employers to ensure safe and sustainable employment opportunities. This can include identifying the best candidates for vacancies, job design, work place assessments and modifications, work trials and wage subsidies.

Vocational Rehabilitation Services are tailored to individual needs and can include:

  • assessment of the impact of a job seeker’s injury, disability or health condition on their ability to participate in employment
  • vocational rehabilitation and other allied health interventions
  • developing goals to manage a disability and achieve employment
  • vocational counselling and planning to identify a safe, suitable and sustainable
  • counselling regarding disability issues
  • employment assistance including preparation of résumé summaries and résumés on Australian Job Search, job application and interview skills and training
  • job seeking and job placement assistance
  • workplace assessments or modification.
